I always ask them what it is that inspires them and the answer is always the same – it’s my life story. Here are a few things you may not have known about me: I am the child of immigrant parents who arrived in the UK in the 1960’s with just £10 to their name. We were poor and grew up on a council estate. Whilst both my parents worked in low paid jobs we were reliant on welfare benefits to help us get through. I grew up in a strict but liberal Muslim household, where it was expected that I would have an arranged marriage. I attained an MA in Planning from Nottingham University in 1994 and my first job was as a Town Planner in East Sussex.
